Meet Dr. Joseph Schulz


Dr. Schulz was born and raised in New Jersey. He attended Rutgers University (BA in 1966), Temple University, School of Dentistry (DDS in 1972) in Philadelphia and the Harvard University School of Dental Medicine in Boston. He earned his Certificate of Proficiency in June 1974 in the area of advanced studies in endodontics (root canal therapy) from both Harvard and the Forsyth Dental Research Center in Boston.

In July 1974, Dr. Schulz began teaching at the Arthur Dugoni School of Dentistry, University of the Pacific in San Francisco as an assistant professor in the department of endodontics. After passing the California Boards he spent less time teaching and more time practicing but continued to participate in part time teaching for over 20 years. He attained the title of associate professor in 1988. Dr. Schulz has been elected to two academic honor societies, has authored chapters in several textbooks and acted as consultant in the development of a computer aided learning program.

He is a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the Alameda, Southern Alameda and Oakland Societies, the American Association of Endodontists, the California Dental Association of Endodontists, and the Northern Academy of Endodontics. He has served as officer on the Alameda County Dental Society, Northern California Academy of Endodontics, and the California Association of Endodontics and has also been an active participant in the Peer Review Councils of these groups. He has served as an expert consultant to the State Dental Board and as expert witness in the legal arena.

Dr. Schulz is currently in full time practice in Oakland.
